About Us
Located in Ohio - we are small intentional breeder/trainer focused on producing a Labrador retriever with exception temperament, health, and athletic ability. We specialize in breeding specific lines of Labrador Retrievers from the UK.
Before we put a dog into our breeding program
1.) Genetic Soundness – we do extensive testing on all our dogs to ensure we are doing our best to produce a genetically healthy puppy. We test for a number of different diseases and research pedigrees for hip, elbow, and eye scores.
2.) Disposition – we only breed dogs we like being with (no exceptions). We want a strong desire to please, a great work ethic, good drive, and natural ability. But equally as important is a quiet demeanor, off-switch around the house, and dog that wants to be with you. We breed a companion that will fit your lifestyle.
3.) Size and Athletic ability – we like a smaller dog with a strong athletic build. Typically are males are between 50-65 lbs and females 40-50 lbs. We demand a lot from our dogs and so we look for a body type and athletic ability that can go wherever you need them.
Our Mission
1611 Sport Dogs exists to do more than produce exceptional Labradors. We have a passion for wanting to make the world a better place.
We give a minimum of 20% of all profits to nonprofit organizations we are involved with, that serve children around the world — providing food, education, safety, and hope.
When you buy a 1611 dog you becomes part of that mission.
My Story
When it comes to working with dogs what I love most is the relationship. Whether it’s a puppy or older dog building that relationship where that dog learns to trust me and see me as his leader is what I have a passion for. Every dog is always happier and better when they have confidence in their handler. For me the parrells between the relationship i'm trying to build with a dog and the relationship the Lord is trying to develop with us is very similar and I love that.
I’ve been training dogs for over 20 years. I know the time and effort it takes to turn a dog into a great companion.
